Joint uplink and downlink admission control to both streaming and elastic flows in CDMA/HSDPA systems

چکیده
TCP-based data flows generate packets and ACKs in two directions, be it in the wireline or wireless networks. In the latter case, packets are typically found in the downlink whereas ACKs are in the uplink. Those two links are asymmetric in the case of CDMA-based High Data Rate (HDR)/High-Speed Downlink Packet Access (HSDPA) systems, the uplink being much slower than the downlink and thus, in some cases, restrictive in terms of the achievable throughput of the TCP flow. The aim of this work is to evaluate the performance of such a setting, in the presence of both streaming and elastic traffic, under a dynamic scenario where users arrive to the system and leave it after completion of their service. We specifically quantify the impact of the uplink on the overall performance of TCP and study the model variations as a function of several parameters such as load, file size and radio conditions 1 .

Admission control in UMTS in the presence of shared channels
In this article, we focus on Call Admission Control (CAC) in the presence of both real-time and elastic flows in a multicell UMTS environment where elastic flows share a common, shared channel. We first study the capacity of a multicell UMTS system. We determine an upper bound on the other-cell interference and obtain novel expressions for the SIR and powers for both the uplink and the downlink...
متن کاملCapacity analysis of uplink and downlink in multimedia DS-CDMA Systems based on constraint models
Capacity analysis in wireless communication systems is essential for system design, call admission control and radio resource allocation. Since CDMA is a kind of powerconstrained or interference-limited system, its system capacity is not so “hard” as in bandwidth-limited systems, such as TDMAbased systems. In this paper, we analyze the uplink and downlink capacity of multimedia DS-CDMA systems ...
متن کاملBackhaul-Aware Decoupled Uplink and Downlink User Association, Subcarrier Allocation, and Power Control in FiWi HetNets
Decoupling the uplink and downlink user association improves the throughput of heterogeneous networks (HetNets) and balances the traffic load of macro- and small- base stations. Recently, fiber-wireless HetNets (FiWi-HetNets) have been considered as viable solutions for access networks. To improve the accuracy of user association and resource allocation algorithms in FiWi-HetNets, the capacity ...
متن کاملOn Joint Sub-channel Allocation, Duplexing Mode Selection, and Power Control in Full-Duplex Co-Channel Femtocell Networks
As one of the promising approaches to increase the network capacity, Full-duplex (FD) communications have recently gained a remarkable attention. FD communication enables wireless nodes to simultaneously send and receive data through the same frequency band. Thanks to the recent achievements in the self-interference (SI) cancellation, this type of communication is expected to be potentially uti...
متن کاملiVoIP: an intelligent bandwidth management scheme for VoIP in WLANs
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) has been widely used by many mobile consumer devices in IEEE 802.11 wireless local area networks (WLAN) due to its low cost and convenience. However, delays of all VoIP flows dramatically increase when network capacity is approached. Additionally, unfair traffic distribution between downlink and uplink flows in WLANs impacts the perceived VoIP quality. This p...
